MoPoetry Phillips is an international spoken word artist, activist, and leader within the community who graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2011 with a B.A. in English. MoPoetry was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, but grew up in Cincinnati most of her life. She is an Appalachian poet and a member of the Urban Appalachian Community Coalition. She was one of the first two African American women certified as a poetry group facilitator through Women Writing for (a) Change within their first twenty-eight year history, and served on their Board of Directors, Cincinnati location from 2019-2022. She currently sits on the boards of Juneteenth Cincinnati Inc, Cincinnati Arts Museum, and the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. In addition she is the co-founder of Regal Rhythms Poetry, founder of Hit the Mic Cincy, and president of Arts Equity Collective which specializes in trauma-informed, arts integrated educational and empowerment workshops. Her works have been published with the Cincinnati Review, SOS Arts, The Voices Project, WordPress, and Ghosn Publishing. Also, her autobiography, included in her first self- published book Equals Greatness, received an Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP): Intro Journals Project nomination. Equals Greatness is available on Amazon, and at both the Cincinnati and Kenton County Public Libraries. She is one of Artswave’s Regional Artist Grant Award recipients for 2021 and Circle Grant recipients for 2022. She continues to impact her community, supporting other artists as she grows in her gift and "connects artists to opportunities."
